Brand Story

It was in Havana, in 1935, that Alonso Menendez, from a long line of merchants, founded the Montecristo brand in reference to Alexandre Dumas' hero. It seems that the torcedores particularly enjoyed having these adventures read to them while they worked. The Menendez family soon bought the Particulares factory, followed by the H.Upmann factory in 1937. Montecristo's success has never waned, the brand maintaining both tradition and modernity, with the launch of limited and relevant editions. In 2009, a range of milder, more modern cigars, called Open, was launched in Havana.

Description

There are very few lines as popular with smokers as Montecristo cigars. Around 25% of all Cuban cigar sales every year are accounted for by this brand; the Montecristo No. 4 is the best-selling Cuban cigar in the world. In every shop on the planet where Habanos are sold, Montecristo will be available to some extent; 26 continuous production cigars across three distinct imprints (each with a different strength profile) all sell enough to warrant their place in the catalogue. The simple brown bands with the fleur-de-lis in the centre have become truly iconic, in a world which severely overuses that term, and the cigar universe simply would not be the same without Montecristo. Exclusively for the Casas and Habanos Specialist, the Montecristo Herederos will be available in a stylish box containing 20 cigars. With its Cazadores Especiales vitola, it fits perfectly into the Montecristo portfolio.
